Located in the Koria district of Chhattisgarh state, Guru Ghasidas Tiger Reserve was initially a part of former Sanjay National Park. However, with the formation of new state 60 per cent of the area came in the state of Chhattisgarh state. Spread across an area of 2,303 sq. km, the forest was declared a national park in the year of 1981. The park has been named after reformist Guru Ghasidas. Government of India has granted permission for the Guru Ghasidas Tiger Reserve recently. This was given along with permission to National Tiger Conservation Authority for developing six new tiger reserves in the country including the Guru Ghasidas.

The vegetation at the reserve is consisted of primarily mixed deciduous forest along with sal, teak, bamboo trees, etc.

The Guru Ghasidas Tiger Reserve offers great opportunity to spot the royal of all the mammals-tiger. Along with tiger, tourists can also spot Leopards, Chital, Nilgai, Chinkara, Jackals, Sambar, Four-horned Antelopes, Jungle Cat, Barking Deer, Porcupine, Monkey, Bison, Striped Hyena, Sloth Bear, Wild Dogs, etc.
The park presents amazing bird watching opportunities. Both residents and migratory birds beautify the place. Some of the birds found here are Golden Hooded Oriole, Racket-Tailed Drongos, Indian Pitta Rufous-Treepie, Lesser Adjutant, Red-Headed Vulture, Cinereous Vulture, Indian White-Rumped Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Nightjars, etc.

Reaching Guru Ghasidas Tiger Reserve
The nearest railway station to the park is the Jaora Railway Station. It is situated on the Riva-Sidhi-Mirjapur-Varanasi state Highway. The park is at 60 km away from Sidhi which is in the state of Madhya Pradesh. One can reach the park via road from here.
