Located in the Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve is along the Indo-Nepal border and its southern boundary is by the River Sharada and Khakra. Spread across an area of 1087 sq. km, the reserve is situated within the Lagga Bhagga Forest Range. The proposed core area of the reserve is 1089 sq. km and has a proposed buffer area of 627 sq. km. The area was declared as the tiger reserve in the year of 2008.

Once at the reserve, tourists have options which are more than just watching and spotting wildlife. Some of the activities for tourists to get involved in are Jeep Safari, Tiger Safari, Jungle Safari, Canter Safari, Nature walks, angling, fishing, trekking and camping.

There are various options of sightseeing around the reserve. Some of these are Jama Masjid, the Gauri Shankar temple, the Jaisantri Devi temple, the Ardhanarishwar temple, the Dargah-e-Shahji Miyan, etc.

The region is bestowed with exotic flora. For instance it has close to just 2,100 flowering plants. The forest is consisted of Terai forests along with grasslands.

The reserve has various animals to boast of along with tiger. Some of these are leopard, swamp deer, hispid hare, Bengal floricans, etc.

The place offer good bird watching opportunities as well. It has almost 556 species of avian creatures.

Best time to visit Pilibhit Tiger Reserve

The best time to visit the reserve is during the months of September to June. It is better to avoid visiting during the rainy season.

  • By air: The nearest airport is at Lucknow which is at a distance of 310 km. Delhi which is just 325 km away from is another nearby airport.
  • By rail: The nearest railhead is at Pilibhit itself which is well connected to major cities of north India like Delhi and Lucknow. Other nearby railway stations are at towns Puranpur and Bisalpur which are connected to other parts of Uttar Pradesh.
  • By road: The city of Pilibhit is well connected to various cities by road such as Bareilly in west and Nainital in north along with other cities like Delhi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur, etc. There are many private as well as UPSRTC buses running between Pilibhit and other cities. Tourists can reach the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve via Shahjahanpur.
