Namdapha Tiger Reserve (Timings, Entry Fee, Safari Online Booking & How to Reach)
Situated in the Changlang District in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, Namdapha was first a forest reserve which was declared a wildlife sanctuary under Assam Forest Regulation in the year of 1972. It was established as a national park in the year of 1983-84. Presenting a mesmerizing scenic view and rich flora and fauna, the tiger reserve lies on the hills of Patkai mountain ranges along the river side.
The name of the Namdapha has been derived from the tributary named “Namdapha” which joins the river, Noa-dehing. With an attitudinal variation from 200m (MSL) to 4500m, the park also has a river flowing from east to west. With more than 60 percent of area untouched, the reserve offers exciting and adventurous opportunities at each and every corner.
Flora @ Namdapha Tiger Reserve
The main kind of vegetation in Namdapha National park is tropical wet evergreen forest. Species of cane, bamboo, wild banana, climber along with various exotic shrubs and herbs can be easily found here. Timber kinds such as Hollong, Hollock, Mekai, Jutuli, Champa and Bhola along with species of pine trees like Pinus merkusai and Abies delavavi add on to the exclusivity of the reserve. Many varieties of orchids adorn the park and also medicinal plants are found here. Blue vanda and coptis teeta are two amongst the rare species.
Fauna @ Namdapha Tiger Reserve
The reserve showcases rich fauna as well. Along with mighty tigers, there are various other exotic animals to spots. Some of these are leopard, snow leopard, clouded leopard, gaur, mithun, elephant, Himalayan black bear, wild goat, musk deer, slow loris, binturong, red panda, Assamese macaque, pig-tailed macaque, stump-tailed macaque and the distinctive hoolock gibbon. The Indian python, reticulated python and king cobra are few of the reptiles which can be spotted here in the park.
The reserve presents amazing bird watching opportunities as well. Some of the avian species found here are White Winged Wood Duck, satyr tragopan, kalij and monal pheasants, giant hornbill, forest eagle, owl, jungle fowl and pheasants, etc.

The Namdapha National Park opens for tourists during the months of October to April.
Reaching Namdapha Tiger Reserve
- By air: The nearest airport to the reserve is at Dibrugarh which is in the state of Assam. From Dibrugarh one has to travel via road.
- By Rail: The nearest station is also located in Assam situated at Tinsukia.
- By Road: To reach till the reserve, tourists are required to travel via road till Miao. Various buses run from Tinsukia and Dibrugarh to the destination. One can also hire a vehicle and travel at their own pace.
