Pakhui Tiger Reserve (Timings, Entry Fee, Safari Online Booking & How to Reach)
Located in the East kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh, the Pakhui Tiger Reserve is the south western side of the state. Offering rich and exotic flora and fauna, the reserve has dense and unexplored mysterious jungles promising an exciting and adventurous time to all its visitors. The place also presents exceptional scenic beauty with Kameng River in its west and the River Pakke located in its east. Spread across an area of 862 km, it was declared as Pakhui Wildlife sanctuary in the year of 2002. In the same year, it was declared as the Pakke Tiger Reserve under the Project Tiger scheme of Government of India.
Flora @ Pakhui Tiger Reserve
The reserve is consisted of various kinds of forests such as Assam valley tropical semi evergreen forests, Sub-Himalayan light alluvial semi evergreen forests, Eastern Hollock forests, Upper Assam valley tropical evergreen forests, Tropical revering forests and Secondary moist bamboo tract, etc.
Some of the species of bamboo which are found in abundance in this area are Dendroclamus hamitonii, Bamboosa pelida and Pseudostachym polymorphism. Various flora species also add on to the reserve’s beauty. Some of these are Hoolock (a huge tree), giant bamboos, orchids, pine, oaks, walnuts, spruce and rhododendrons.
Fauna @ Pakhui Tiger Reserve
The reserve boasts of wide range of fauna as well. Along with majestic tiger, tourists can spot animals such as leopard, clouded leopard, jungle cat, Sambar, Hog deer, barking deer, slow Loris, wildboar, yellow throated martin, wild dog, fishing cat, jackal, Indian fox, Himalayan black bear, binturong, elephant, gaur, Malayan Giant squirrel, flying squirrel, squirrel, civet, capped langur, rhesus macaque, Assamese Macaque, stamp tailed macaque, bison etc. Different kinds of reptiles like Python, Cobra and Krait can be found.
There are various kinds of birds as well offering good bird watching opportunities such as hornbill, white winged wood duck, jungle fowl, peacock pheasant, khaleej pheasant, dove, barbets, drongo, eagle, ducks, etc.
Best time to visit Pakhui Tiger Reserve
The ideal time to visit the reserve is during the months of October to April.
Reaching Pakhui Tiger Reserve
- By air: The nearest airport to the reserve is Tezpur. From here, one can hire a taxi from the airport for the destination.
- By rail: The nearest railway station is at Rangapara. Tourists can either take a bus or hire a taxi from the station and travel to the reserve.
- By road: There are many buses running from Tezpur to other places of Arunachal Pradesh. One can get buses from Bhalukpong as well.
